In Honor of Those Who Have Served and Have Passed: Simple Things Sunday

It feels a little strange posting pictures taken in a cemetery.

We were placing flowers on my grandfather and great grandfather’s graves for Memorial Day with my 92 year old grandmother. The moment was special and represented something significant to me, and my grandmother. I wanted to capture it.

I also wanted to honor Memorial Day on Our Muddy Boots, but I was not sure how to do it.  Once I looked at the pictures from the day I realize that this is the best way.

Sydney watering the plants that we placed on my grandfather's grave. He served overseas in the army (now the air force) as a sergeant . He served with the Flying Tigers in both Burma and China. My aunt was two before he met her.

My great grandfather was a spy for the Navy. He served behind enemy lines in places such as Egypt and Japan. He once received his orders when he broke open his bread for dinner. His orders were inside.

My grandmother will be 93 in july. This is the grave of her father and mother. My grandmother's birthday is on july 3rd and it has always seemed fitting to me, given her level of patriotism and gratitude toward those who serve our country. I suppose this could be said of most from her generation, and many from mine.
